What is "Infant Mental Health?"
"The young child's capacity to experience, regulate and express emotions, form close and secure relationships, and explore the environment and learn. All of these capacities will be best accomplished within the context of the caregiving environment that includes family, community and cultural expectations for young children. Developing these capacities is synonymous with healthy social and emotional development" (Zero to Three, 2001).
IPIC strives to improve infant mental health by increasing a child's ability to bond and attach with the primary caregiver. In order to best achieve this, IPIC has an interdisciplinary team including a psychiatrist, psychologist, licensed counselors, rehabilitation specialists and case managers who work together to provide quality therapeutic services for the families we work with. IPIC also works closely with Oklahoma County DHS and the Juvenile Court when necessary.
